Dylan Elise Drumming Performance
On Friday we were lucy enough to have a performance at our school assembly from a very talented and inspiring guy - Dylan Elise he is 20 years old and is a professional musician. He performed to our assembly and was amazing! A very talented guy with a clear message to students to follow and pursue their dreams. He has been drumming since he was 6year old and started getting taught by his father. Below is a video clip of him performing when he was 16! you can search his name to find out more about him and his talents
Health Topic - Rat Dissection Lesson
On Thursday afternoon as part of our studies on the human body and its systems we looked at the anatomy of rats through the dissection of them. The rat has a very similar internal organ layout to that of humans. The rat dissection was an interesting lesson and a great chance for everyone to see the real life example of the internal organs we have been studying and how they all work together to make a body function. We dissected and examined two rats witht he assistance and knowledge of Jono who works in Room 14 - he has a Degree in Anatomy so was able tclearly explain all that we were seeing during the session - Thanks Jono!

www.mathletics.co.nz
Well we have been trialling the mathletics.co.nz website with Room 13 over the past 2 weeks. Children have embraced the concept and I have been impressed by the interest shown by all students, especially the ones I normally need to encourage.
I would like to implement the programme within our in class maths timetable on a regular basis, so it would be of benefit for your child to join up.
As you can appreciate, to purchase a license for all our pupils would be a significant outlay and one which we can unfortunately not bear alone. However, if we were able to obtain a contribution from a significant number of parents who felt that the program would be worthwhile, then we could proceed (we need 90% of the class). As an indication, a normal one-year subscription to this site costs a parent $99 per child. However, if we could find a sizeable number of parents willing to contribute $15 per child, then the school will be happy to invest in this initiative, until the end of January 2011.
